SCALING UP™ BUSINESS TRAINING: PHASE IA

Training within the Scaling Up™ program consists of 4 quarterly modules.

Through the Scaling Up™ process, you’ll be trained on the tools necessary to achieve your growth goals, regardless of your business size or industry. Through this training partnership, we’ll help you focus on four major business decisions involving people, strategy, execution, and cash. More than 40,000 firms have found these teachings valuable and have increased business growth by utilizing the One-Page Strategic Plan, the Rockefeller Habits Execution Checklist, and the other tools described in the Scaling Up™ handbook.

The Phase IA course introduces organizations to a unified approach to communication, leadership, and purpose that will improve efficiency and teamwork. Each trainee will work with the customized executive training tools they need to inspire action, results, and accountability towards the company’s larger vision.

How It Works

The following steps outline how training works over 4 quarterly modules and 32 hours of instruction, whether it’s online or in-person. For a more detailed explanation of each module please see Appendix A:

Quarterly Full-Day/Half-Day Training Sessions

Working in 8-hour sessions or two 4-hour sessions, we’ll complete 1 of 4 training modules each quarter to build leadership knowledge, drive action toward quarterly goals, and facilitate individual check-ins with leadership.

Appendix A

All businesses run best when these “Four Decisions™” are made correctly:

  1. People: Build your team’s performance
  2. Strategy: Build a business model that is profitable and drives growth.
  3. Execution: Stay focused and implement all the critical elements of your strategy.
  4. Cash: Keep a strong cash flow to drive growth.

We call these the “Four Decisions™”.

In pursuit of your goals, we will first identify them clearly in order to develop and implement your “One Page Strategic Plan.” We’ll then align your long-term business goals and the required short term actions.

As you develop your One Page Strategic Plan, we’ll guide you to identify company’s particular requirements in the areas of People, Strategy, Execution, and Cash. In preparation for potential business growth opportunities, we’ll provide training to help you identify the essential skills and knowledge needed to make the most of these opportunities. We’ll also take note of any knowledge gaps that may arise during this process and educate you on how to identify and rectify them.

Quarter 1:

START DEVELOPMENT OF ONE PAGE STRATEGIC PLAN

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:
– Learn how the Four Decisions (People, Strategy, Execution, Cash) create a foundation for – business strategic planning.

– Be trained to develop their One Page Strategic Plan based on these Four Decisions including 3 to 5 key thrusts for the next 3 years, 3 to 5 objectives for the current fiscal year and 3 to 5 Rocks for the current quarter.

Assessment:
Is the draft One Page Strategic Plan completed with identified Key Thrusts, Yearly Objectives and Quarterly Rocks?

Quarter 2:

ROCKEFELLER HABITS CHECKLIST / WWW

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:
– Learn how to evaluate the organization using the Rockefeller Habits Checklist

– Learn to establish individual accountabilities based on this evaluation that are in line with their One Page Strategic Plan.

Assessment:
Is the team able to assess themselves to the Rockefeller Habits Checklist? Did they each establish individual accountabilities?

Quarter 3:

CREATE CORE VALUES

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:
– Learn how to recognize values that are “alive” and contribute to organizational culture and growth.

– Learn how to assess the effectiveness of their organizational values.

– Learn how to review and/or create organizational core values that match the kind of culture and growth they are trying to build in their One Page Strategic Plan.

Assessment:
Is the team able to identify and define the organizational core values? If needed, can they create or redraft core values that match their vision for growth?

Quarter 4:

TALENT ASSESSMENT

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:
– Learn employee profile types (A, B, C).

– Learn how matching profiles, job positions and work tasks can contribute to or detract from building the organization.

– Learn how to evaluate the employees reporting to them as A, B or C players.

– Learn to place and hire employees more effectively in positions suited to their strengths.

Assessment:
Is the team able to evaluate the relative capabilities of their team members and identify A, B, and C players? Are they able to identify areas of improvement in employee placement and/or hiring?

FUNCTION ACCOUNTABILITY CHART

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:
– Learn how to evaluate the organization using the Rockefeller Habits Checklist

Is the team able to determine who the accountable person is for each critical function identified? Are they able to identify opportunities for improvement?

Quarter 6:

CASH ACCELERATION STRATEGIES

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:
– Learn about the Cash Flow Cycle and how it impacts potential for organizational growth.

– Learn to evaluate the organization’s Cash Flow Cycle.

– Learn to determine and execute the actions required to shorten it.

Assessment:
Is the team able to define the Cash Flow Cycle? Are they able to identify opportunities for improvement?

Quarter 7:

POWER OF ONE

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:

– Learn how small changes (1%, 1 day) can drive more cash to the bottom line.

– Learn how to review the income and expenses of the organization.

– Learn how to recognize what small changes may have big impact on the organization’s cash flow.

Assessment:
Is the team able to identify the income and expense sources within the organization that could be small changes with big impact?

Quarter 8:

STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES & TRENDS

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:

– Learn how to identify organizational strengths, weaknesses

– Learn how to assess what effects the identified external trends will have on the organization

– Learn to determine and execute the actions required from this analysis.

Assessment:
Is the team able to identify organizational strengths, weaknesses? Are they able to identify potential effects external trends will have on the organization? Are they able to determine potential actions required from this analysis?

SCALING UP™ BUSINESS TRAINING: PHASE IC

Training within the Scaling Up™ program consists of 4 quarterly modules

In this phase of the Scaling Up™ training, we will teach you how to define your core customer and your organizational brand promises. Your team will find their “Sandbox” where they can play and explore new ideas and opportunities. Learn how to set key strategies that align with your organizational objectives and how to set priorities, key performance indicators (KPIs), and milestones that help your team achieve those strategies.

The Phase IC course continues to introduce organizations to a unified approach to communication, leadership, and purpose that will improve efficiency and teamwork. Each trainee will work with the customized executive training tools they need to inspire action, results, and accountability towards the company’s larger vision.

– Learn how to Identify the core customer.

– Learn how to create organizational brand promises that matches organizational values and the core customer.

Quarter 10:

SANDBOX

Outcomes:
The team will:

– Learn to assess the organization’s potential fields of play

– Learn how to identify and execute any actions needed to effectively exploit the defined area

Assessment:
Is the team able to Identify the organization’s field of play and any actions needed to effectively exploit the defined area?

Quarter 11:

KEY THRUSTS

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:

– Learn about pulling out Key Thrusts to support strategic growth planning.

– Learn to assess what Key Thrusts might be valuable for organizational growth for the next 3 to 5 years.

– Learn how to identify and describe the key strategies that need to be executed over the next 3 to 5 years to meet organizational objectives.

Assessment:
Is the team able to identify the key strategies that need to be executed over the next 3 to 5 years to meet organizational objectives?

Quarter 12:

INDIVIDUAL PLAN: PRIORITIES, KPIS AND MILESTONES

8 HOURS

Outcomes:
The team will:

– Learn about matching individual Priorities to support strategic growth planning.

– Learn how to use Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and milestones in strategic growth planning.

– Learn how to develop individual Priorities, KPIs and Milestones for the upcoming fiscal year

Assessment:
Is the team able to develop individual Priorities, KPIs and Milestones for the upcoming fiscal year?
